A Damask Flower Pin and Ugly French Sign

DIY Day @ ASPTL

So today I took a stab at making my own flower pin and I attempting my first hand painted sign (disaster).

The flower pint turned out great I love anything that spruces up a shirt or jacket! I love black and white and I adore damask designs. I found this fabric at AJ Wright actually it was a sheet set for like 5.00. I made a tablecloth from it and had some left over ( okay really a ton left over) I combined it with some black fabric and a pearl center. It is purposely mis-shapen and big. I have seen the bigger flower pins lately and love them. I cut some random size circles from the fabric and sewed them all together gathering as I went.

I tried desperately to fix it but it still looks gooby. For the second part I still couldn’t wait for that fine tip sharpie but I applied the paint with the tip of a stylus. It looked great. I printed the font on paper and traced using a sharp tip pen. The letters indented into the wood. I also need to try to size better I had a lot of white space left. I did enjoy using one of my new dremel bits to distress the sign. I worked perfectly. I painted and undercoat of black and white on top so that when I distressed it would turn out the way it did. I am going to find a way to fix it and then I will repost it. Here are some pics of the process for your viewing pleasure.

I added some wooden accents by hot gluing them on. I know Shanty sisters I know I should have used Gorilla Glue.

There you have it the Beaucoup turned out to be a Beaucoup mess! :-(

I will fix it and maybe come up with something more for the white space. Maybe I will sand off all the lettering and redo them bigger. I don’t know. Grrr.

But I still love my damask pin!

Happy DIY day!

  1. The pin is adorable - Love the fabric you used. The wood embellishments you added to the sign are wonderful - I think they really make a piece stand out.

  2. You did a great job. The wording on the sign looks really good too. It looks 3D-ish. You are too hard on yourself. No "Grr"..Grreat..hehe :)
